Marshall, who for the past 16 years has been in charge ef the casing department at the South Otago freezing works, has been appointed to an important position, for his firm in Auckland, and will, .with Mrs Marshall and his two daughter's, leave Balclutha at the end of this month for his new home. During their residence in Balclutha Mr and Mrs Marshall hava taken an active interest in the Balclutha Bowling Club, being members of the respective men’s and ladiessections for some years. Mr Marshall has filled various offices in the club. , Mrs Marshall was also a member or the Women’s Institute. Misses Hazel and Vera Marshall" have played a prominent part in the Lily of Clutha 1.0.0. F. Lodge, being P.N.G.s of the order. They also were members of the Balclutha Amateur Dramatic Society, and at a social function held on, Tuesday night Mr A. R. Dreaver made reference to their coming departure and paid a tribute to the interest they had taken in the society, their . acting ability being worthy of mention*',-Miss Hazel Marshall was secretary tff.tha society, and he - wished 'both, all cess in the future. Miss Hazek3larshall is typist at the office of Mr J. T. Walter, solicitor, and prior to that had been In the office of Mr F. Cooke, accountant. The best wishes of .their many friends will accompany the- Marshall family to their new home.. - Mr J. Russell, who for the -past lo months has been on the staff of the Balclutha Post Office, has received notice of transfer to Waikouaiti,. and last evening was the recipient a. suit case from his colleagues. Oppor- , tunity was also taken to make the presentation of a bedroom clock to Mr C. James, who this week will ]oin the ranks of the benedicts. Mr A. Dawson, postmaster, made the presentations, and representatives or the various .sections of the staff also spoke, wishing the recipients all success in the future. Messrs Russell and James made suitable acknowledgment. The funeral of Mr D. T. Fleming to the Balclutha cemetery yesterday was attended by a large and representative assemblage of mourners. Included were representatives of the Balclutha Borough Council, , Balclutha ■ Primary School staffs and committee, S O. High School staff and board of governors, Otago Education Board, Clutha River Board. Legislative Conncil, Otago High School Board of Governors; the old O.M.R. and other organisations with which deceased had been associated. Rev. A. L. Miller, - M.A., was the officiating minister, and a large number of beautiful floral tnbates bore testimony to the esteem in which the deceased was held. MOTHERS’ LEAGUE. Mrs R. D. Willocks presided over the monthly meeting of the Balclutha branch of the Mothers’ League yesterday afternoon. Mrs Davidson.' tha oldest member of the league, presented the speaker for the day. Mrs Herrington, Dunedin. ..with a posy or violas, and the chairwoman extended a welcome. Mrs Herrington gave a very inspiring address, speaking on tha various Gospels of the Bible, and stating that the best gospel of all was the gosnel according to mother. Miss Lilian Scott contributed an elocution- , ary item, which was encored, and afternoon tea was dispensed -by the hostesses. During the course of the meeting members stood in,silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the lata Mr D T. Fleming. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Herrington for her address, and the meeting closed in the usual way. '
