ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEASON MEETING OF COMMITTEE The president of the Otago Cricket Association (Mr A. H. Alien) presided at a meeting of the committee of that body held last evening. SENIOR REP. MATCHES. Arrangements for the match against Southland at Invercargill on labour jjay were left in the hands of the secretary, it being resolved that 12 men be sent, Mr R. Talbot to be playing manager. . . The Auckland Association wrote confirming December 31 and January 2, 3, and 4 as the dates tor the match with Otago at Dunedin. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES. The Canterbury Association wrote suggesting rules for Brabiu Shield matches. —It was resolved to inform the Canterbury Association that Otago was not particularly interested in the Brabiu Shield matches, its chief concern boiii{£ tlio continutinco ot tlic sninual fixture between the junior representatives of the two provinces, it suggested that the players eligible to take part iu this match be those under 20 years of age who were members of intermediate or second grade A teams, and who bad played in more than one senior match during the season. COACHING.
Mr J. Robson, on behalf of the Coaching Committee, recommended that the coaching of primary school boys bo continued on similar lines to those adopted last year. The committee recommended that boys from the various schools be coached between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. on two evenings of each week, starting the first week in November, at Logan Park, on the North Ground, at Kaikorai, and at Tonga Park. The committee also recommended that Messrs Galland and Eversen be re-engaged as coaches at a remuneration of £25 each for the period November to Maich inclusive, and that a thiid coach be advertised for at the same remuneration. It further recommended that the school teachers be asked to send representatives to attend the various grounds to watch the work with a view to their acquiring a knowolclge of the main features of the instruction there given, so as to be in a position to supervise the boys’ play in school matches and on other occasions. ■ If a concrete wicket could be obtained at the North Ground, said the report, matting would be required to be purchased. The Kaikorai Club had kindly agreed to co-operate with the work by providing a wicket and matting, or by preparing a turf wicket if such were desired, assistance which was deeply appreciated by the committee. The estimated cost of the scheme (salaries, material) was £IOO. The report was approved, a letter of appreciation to bo sent to the Kaikorai Club for its practical assistance. GRADE RULES. The Grade Committee, through Mr W. A Rowland, recommended the following alterations to the grade rules;— Rule 6: First, intermedate, second grade A and secondary schools grade matches shall be two-day matches; all other grades to be one-day matches. Rule 6a: Secondary schools’ grade matches shall be played under the control of the Schools Committee, which shall be responsible to the Grade Committee of the association. Rule 6b: In the event of a team defaulting on the first day of a two-day match and matches being postponed on the second day, 5 points only shall be allotted for a win. Rule 7: In the event of two or more teams in any grade having an equal number of points at the conclusion of the competition, those teams shall, if practicable, play off. Should this not be practicable the equal teams to be bracketed.
COUNTRY CRICKET. The Maniototo Sub-association wrote suggesting that the rules governing tlio Crosby Morris Cup competition be amended to make it a challenge trophy. —The secretary to communicate with the sub-unions concerned. The Southland Association and the South Canterbury Sub-association each wrote stating that a team would be sent to take part in the Country Week matches. The Maniototo Sub-association wrote stating that inquiries were being made as to the possibility of sending a team to town for Country Week._ The North Otago Association wrote asking that an Otago team bo sent to Oamaru this season.—Held over. JUNIOR TEAMS. The Junior Cricket Association wrote forwarding the following resolutions passed at its meeting:—‘‘The committee asks that in the selection of junior representative teams a member of the Junior Committee be included in the Selection Committee. The committee reaffirms its opinion that the promotion and relegation scheme be introduced up to and including second grade A competitions. The clause regarding the selector was agreed to. With respect to the promotion and relegation of teams in the junior competitions, the President said that this matter had been discussed fully last year, and it was decided to adhere to the present system. SELECTION COMMITTEE. Messrs J. M'Millan (convener), (R. Talbot, and A. Galland were appointed the Selection Committee for the, present season. GENERAL. Mr Robson brought forward the mat--ter of shelters and seats being provided for Tonga Park, and moved that the Ground Committee be authorised to wait upon the superintendent of reserves and discuss with him the conditions under which these necessary amenities might bo secured.—Mr Rowland supported the motion, stating that Logan Park was similarly in need of shelters and seats.—The motion was carried. Permission to send teams to the country on Labour Day was granted the University (to Oamaru), Carisbrook (to Oamaru), and Albion (to Tapanui) Clubs. Applications for transfers were received from A. M. Ferguson (Carisbrook to Old Boys) and K. M.’ Kidd (Old Boys to Grange).—The necessary clearances being appended, the applications were referred to the Grade Committee. The appointment of Mr T. Hughes as the representative of the Otago Junior Cricket Committee on the committee of the association was approved, and Mr J. Robson was appointed to represent the latter body on the Junior Committee. The Cavershani Enterprise Club was granted affiliation to the association.
TEAM FOR SOUTHLAND. G. W. Dickinson not being available to travel to Invercargill with the Otago team which is to play Southland on Labour Day, A. T.
