Messrs W. J- Morrell. L. D. Ritchie, and H. Chapman left this morning for Wellington on university business. The Leader of the National Party (Hon. Adam Hamilton) was a through passenger by the express for the' south, yesterday afternoon. He was met at the Railway Station" by executive members and candidates or the party at the recent elections. The award of the bursary in music at the University of Otago was made by thfe council yesterday to E. B. Perks, the lecturer (Dr V. E. Galway) reporting that no competition had been held for the prizes given by " the Society of Women. Musicians. On the recommendation of the Professorial Board, the Council of the University of Otago, at its meeting yesterday, awarded the Fowler Scholarship to D. B. Gash and P. W. Wisbart. Mention w»s made at yesterday’s meeting of the Board of Managers of the King Edward Technical College to the 1 fact that an ex-chairman (Mr T. Scott) would celebrate his eighty-fifth birthday to-morrow. It was decided to send Mr Scott a’ letter of congratulaton. Reference was made by the president (Mr C. W. Clark) at last night’s meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to the death of Mr F. W. G. Rudkin, an old runner, who had been a good sprinter in his day, and who on giving up competition had been the centre’s starter for some years. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the relatives. At the last meeting of the George Street School, Committee Mr B. R. Ferguson was elected chairman/ in place of Mr E. S. Vercoe, who resigned oa account of having moved from the school district. Several members of the committee made eulogistic reference to Mr Vercqe’s excellent work as treasurer and later as chairman, and thanked him for the good service ha had always willingly rendered while off the committee. Mr J. H. Hall, officer in charge of the New Zealand Pavilion at "the Empire Exhibition, Glasgow, has been appointed a temporary collaborator on the Leagu.e of Nations secretariat at Geneva. With Mrs Hall and . their children he will go to Switzerland immediately the exhibition closes, at- the end of October, and stay six months. "While editor of the ‘ Dominion ,in Wellington, Mr Hall was a member of the National Council of the New Zealand League of Nations Union. The resignation of , Archdeacon G< MacMurrav from the offices of Archdeacon of Auckland, vicar-general of the diocese, and secretary of the New Zealand Mission Trust Board was announced by Archbishop Averill during his charge to members of the Synod of Auckland diocese yesterday Archdeacon Mac Murray has also indicated that he will not be available for reappointment to the Board of Nomination. The archbishop , said . he had much pleasure in asking Archdeacon Mac Murray to accept the title of “Archdeacon Emeritus ” for the_ rest of his life, and he therefore appointed him to that office, as from January 1 next, A Press Association cable messag® says that Bobby Locke, the golfer, is a passenger for New Zealand by the Awa'tea, which left Sydney yesterday.
