Southland reversed the position and Valentine missed a penalty. Poor handling, which marred the early stages, checked an Otago breakaway. Mahoney neatly intercepted an Otago passing movement, but Valentine failed with a penalty. Southland looked dangerous, Milne leading a rush deep into Otago territory. Southland continued very dangerous, and twice were nearly over before Hamilton took the ball from a scrum on the goal line to cross almost next the posts. Sutherland goaled. September 9.—The ‘ News ’ correspondent says there is a .rave danger that if the Czechoslovakian Government is forced to make further concessions the country will become a second Spain.
