MR HOFMEYR RESIGNS DISPUTE OVER DEFEATED CANDIDATE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyngtn CAPE TOWN, September 8. (Received September 9, at 8 a.m.) Mr Hofmeyr resigned following the Cabinet crisis. [A cablegram received yesterday stated that a Cabinet crisis involving the resignation of Mr J. H". Hofmeyr (Minister of Mines), arose unexpectedly. Mr A. P. Fourie (Minister of Commerce) was defeated at the General Election, and General Hertzog insisted on his return to the Cabinet. Attempts to find a safe seat failed, and General Hertzog decided to nominate him as one of the four senators with a knowledge of native affairs. Mr Hofmeyr expressed the opinion that this was a breach of constitutional practice.]
MR FOURTH APPOINTED TO SENATE. CAPE TOWN. September 9. (Received September 10, at 11 a.m.) Mr Sturrock has resigned. Mr Koune has been appointed to Senate and Cabinet.
