[A cablegram received yesterday stated that a Cabinet crisis involving the resignation of Mr J. H". Hofmeyr (Minister of Mines), arose unexpectedly. Mr A. P. Fourie (Minister of Commerce) was defeated at the General Election, and General Hertzog insisted on his return to the Cabinet. Attempts to find a safe seat failed, and General Hertzog decided to nominate him as one of the four senators with a knowledge of native affairs. Mr Hofmeyr expressed the opinion that this was a breach of constitutional practice.]
