GOVERNMENT ADMITS REBEL ADVANCE TERRIFIC LOSSES REPORTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright BARCELONA, September 6. Reporting the heaviest fighting on the Ebro front, the Government admits that the rebels have slightly advanced at the cost of terrific losses. BRITISH SHIP BOMBED AT ALICANTE LONDON, September G. (Received September 7, at 10.10 a.m.) The British ship Marvia was bombed while unloading at Alicante and set on fire. An Arab sailor was killed. CONFLICT INTENSIFIED NEW ITALIAN TROOPS REPORTED. LONDON, September 6. (Received September 7, at 12.30 p.m.) The ‘ Daily Telegraph’s ’ Barcelona correspondent says the fighting is intensifying on the Ebro front as the rebels hurl against the loyalist position 150,000 troops, which are reported to include eight Italian divisions, many of whose men recently arrived from Italy. The rebels are supposed to have suffered 25,000 casualties on the Ebro front in the course of five weeks in futile efforts to break through. There have also been 20,000 casualties on the Valencia front since July. Their efforts are only now partially succeeding because they are supported by quantities of German artillery.
