ST. KILDA BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the St. Hilda Borough Council was held last night, there being present the Deputymayor (Cr N. D. Anderson), and Crs G. Glue, W. J. Lovell, R. S. Brent, T. D. B. Roy, J. C. Cherry, J. H. Hinton, H. H. Johnson, E. Longworth, and W. Rutherford. Accounts passed for payment totalled £.534 ]6s. It was reported that receipts amounted to £673 2s lid, and that tho credit balance stood at £59 19s 4d. Water consuiuod in the borough in tho last two weeks amounted to 2,674,UOO gallons, the cost being £IOO 5s 6d, as against £IOB 12s 9d for the previous period. EXHIBITION PRESENTATION. Tho secretary of the Otago Provincial Centennial Council wrote that arrangements were being made to eusnre that the province was suitably represented by a comprehensive exhibit at the forthcoming Centennial Exhibition. It was not intended that separate provincial .courts should he erected within tho pavilion; hut that the Provincial Court Pavilion as a whole should ho laid out on a Dominion basis, each province occupying its relatively correct geographical position. In tho area allotted to Otago it was intended to ma.ko an attractive and . realistic display of both the primary industries and the scenic attractions of the province. The committee was anticipating the council’s co-operation and financial assistance, and asked that a deputation be allowed to wait on the council to explain the proposals more fully. With a view to facilitating a more subsaritial contribution, it would be suggested that the total amount he spread over three financial years.—lt was decided to defer discussion on the matter until after the deputation had been hoard. REPORTS. Work done since the last meeting was detailed by the foreman in his report, and he suggested for the ensuing fortnight patching streets and footpaths where required and attending to'general 1 maintenance. The work of forming lawns in Forbury Crescent had been delayed owing to the Gas Department repairing pipes. Trafalgar street lawns, kerb, and channel were finished, and the men were now removing Nile street kerb and channel.- —Adopted. The plumber’s report stated that 17 water bursts had been repaired, water services and fire plugs lowered in Trafalgar street, and fire plug pegs painted. Inspections of the borough and buildings' had also been attended to and various repairs effected. — Adopted. '
