Waite recorded his highest score on the tour and hit 10 4’s. O’lleilly was more sedate than usual and carried his bat for an excellent 40, leaving Australia in a sound position against “England’s strong batting. Big leg breaks from Ward resulted in the dismissal of Paynter and Compton. England had lost four for 89 when Ames came in. He was immediately in fine form and made a sparkling 50 in 45 minutes? Ward gave his most imposing performance of the tour._ He continued to bowl a magnificent vicious spin and had Valentine stumped.
