BOXING BET

HAIRDRESSER CALLS THE ODDS FINE OF £7 [Pbb United Pees* Assocutto*.] PALMERSTON N., August 29. _ An unusual prosecution was heard is the Magistrate’s Court, when John Alexander Eustace, a hairdresser, of Wellington, was charged with offering to make a bet at a boxing match here. Police witnesses gave evidence that defendant called out after the start of the Aitken-Gildo contest; “I bet five to one, 1 bet four to one." When the decision was given at the end of the contest defendant rushed through the ropes and put his arms round one of the boxers. Counsel pleaded that the case was trivial, but the Magistrate imposed a fine of £7.
