Y.W.C.A. DIRECTORS

BOARD MEETING The monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors was held oh Wednesday last, Miss Frances J. Ross presiding over Mesdames C. M. Begg, R. W. S. Bolting, J. R. Fairbaim, G. Fran r cis, C. S. Fowler, J. Malcolm, P. L. Ritchie, H. D. Skinner, Misses A. Permin, L- Sullivan and Lovell-Smith. Correspondence was received from the New Zealand Pan-Pacific Women’s Association announcing a meeting to be held in Wellington in September. It was decided to appoint Miss Sullivan to represent the Dunedin Y.W.C.A. The national office wrote stating that Miss Jean Campbell, of Vancouver, had accepted the appointment as second national secretary and would arrive in New Zealand in February. She would attend the World Youth Congress at Vassar, United States, in July and the Y.W.C.A. World’s Council at Muskoka, Canada, in August. A letter was also received from Miss Law stating that a cablegram had been received from Miss Moncrieff saying she had reached Hongkong, safely. . Plans for celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the Y.W.C.A. in Dunedin were discussed and the following programme was agreed upon:—September 21, reception for past and present members: September 22, annual meeting and sixtieth birthday party, programme to be given by girl members; September 25, thanksgiving service in the afternoon with tea to follow. It was hoped that many past members would attend these functions. Annual reports from the membership, hostel, house and cafeteria, girls’ department, senior department, health, recreation and administration departr .ments were read and discussed. It was decided to send a letter of welcome to her Excellency, Lady Galway, who is patroness of the Y.W.C.A., when she arrives in Dunedin. Miss Sullivan read a letter she had received from Mrs Denton Leech regarding a protest against the atrocities committed by the Japanese armies in China —After some discussion ; t was decided that a letter be sent to the Japanese Consul recording the protest of the association. The financial statement for July was adopted and current accounts wore passed for payment. Leave of absence was granted to Mrs M. McAughtrie, who has been appointed coach-manager of the Otago representative basketball team to attend the New Zealand basketball tournament at Timaru.
