ST. STEPHEN’S CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of St. Stephen’s Church congregation was held on Wednesday evening. The Minister, the Rev. Thomas Miller, presided and there was a good attendance. The annual report states: “ The Minister continues to grace the high standard of the Christian ministry. His preaching manifests deep study, and a prayerful preparation, and the evangelical appeal is kept constantly alive. The activities •of Mrs Miller and,.her Consecrated service are acknowledged wiht gratitude.” The reports of session and. Deacon’s Court revealed a satisfactory year’s work. There had been definite progress in things both spiritual and material, every department showing an increase on the previous year The attendance at the Sabbath services had increased, and the number attending the prayer meeting was encouraging. During.the year,23 joined the membership of the church. There were,l7 disjunctions, 13 by removal and four by death.- Sympathy was expressed with the relatives of those who had passed ■away during the year The Deacon’s Court was strengthened by the election of six new dea.cons,. The Young Worshippers’ League ■had a membership of 55, and the Sabhad a roil of 155 with a cradle? roll of 30. The superintendent, Mr. Miller, had a loyal staff of 19 teachers and two capable secretaries. The Bible; classes had a membership .of 48. The reports of the Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavour in its three .branches showed these had a membership of 71, Twenty-seven members attended the C.E. Convention and 20 reported present at the Pounawea Convention. A number of university students were connected with the Bible classes and Christian Endeavour Societies; ( "’The" P.W.M.U. had a membership of 35. and reported an increase of £l6 on the previous year for missions! The Women’s Association raised £75 for debt reduction, an increase on.the previous year. Thanks were expressed to Miss Mabel Hutchinson, the secretary and treasurer. , ,•

The choir, under the able leadership of Mr A. Chisholm, was specially thanked, also Mrs Chisholm for her .services in connection with the singing. The treasurer, Mr.J. P Every, reported an increase in the ordinary and special giving, and thanked the members for their liberal support, stating that the finances were better than for many years. He expressed appreciation of the Synod’s grant, which, with a special collection, had enabled the spending of £620 ,on church renovation Thanks were expressed to the many voluntary workers who were willing to give their services in the matter of repairs and the routine work of the church. The reading of the various. reports showed a keen: activity in all departments. The minister expressed his deep appreciation of all office-bearers, workers and members, for loyal and selfsacrificing service. During the evening Mrs Chisholm sang a solo and two items were rendered by the choir.
