A PINK SET ’s Shoes ANY girl who can knit will love to make this lovely pink set tor some lucky baby. The pattern Is in a simple knob stitch, and directions are given here for making the shoes. You will require a skein of 3-ply twisted wool in that lovely shade of pink known as “bitter sweet,” and a pair of No. 14 knitting needles. Begin the shoe by casting on 24 stitches. Knit into back of stitches in first row. Proceed in garter stitch (i.e., plain knitting both ways). Increasing one stitch at each end of every alternate row until you have 32 stitches on the needle. Work five rows In garter stitch. Knit two together at each end of every alternate row until 24 stitches remain. Work one row and cast on seven stitches for heel,* knit back. Knit twice into first stitch. Knit to end of row *. Repeat the last two rows five times. Next Row—Cast on 21 stitches. Work to end of row. Next row (which is the beginning of the knob pattern), • knit 3 (k 1, p 1, k 1, p 1) into next stitch, pull first stitch over remaining 3 stitches, pull 2nd st over 4th st, then 3rd st over remaining st. You now have made one knob. » Repeat • to • to last 4 sts. Knit 4. 2nd and 4th rows, purl. 3rd row, knit. sth row, k 1 • Make knob. K 3, • Repeat *to• to last 3 stitches. Make knob. K2. 6th, Bth, and 10th rows, purl 7th row. knit. 9th row. as Ist row. Cast on 21 sts and work in garter stitch. Keeping the heel edge straight, but decreasing at other edge every alternate row until 31 sts remain. Knit 1 row. Cast off. Sew together the edges around the sole, easing in the pattern at the toe. To make the strap, cast on 12 st and pick up and K 16 st at back of heel (8 st at either side of seam) Then cast on a further 12 stitches. Ist Row.—Knit. 2nd Row.—K 2, cast off 2 st, k to end of row. 3rd Row.—Knit to last 2 st, cast on 2 st, knit 2. 4th Row. —Knit. Cast off. Sew a tiny pearl button on the end of either strap, and the shoe is complete.
