KAIKORAI BAND
ANNUAL MEETING There was a fair attendance of members at the fifty-seventh annual meeting of the Kaikorai Brass Band, held last evening in the band rooms in Maclaggan street. In the absence of the president (Mr E. T. Mailer), Mr J. H. Walker occupied the chair. The band was at practically full strength, but owing to the resignation of several of the older members through ill-health it had been unable to enter the Dominion contest competitions, the annual report stated. Practices had been well attended under the baton of Lieutenant H. A. Osborne. It was hoped that finances would improve sufficiently to enable the band to participate in the Dominion contest at Christchurch in February. In ite new building, which offered greater facilities than before, more social functions were being held. However, the standard of the efficiency of the band would be greatly accentuated if a new set of instruments could ■be procured. Finance was in a satisfactory state, though expenditure had been heavy over the past year, and it was expected that a further improvement would be shown this year. In moving the adoption of the annual .report and balance sheet, the Chairman expressed his pleasure at the strength of the band at present. He felt sure that it would give a good account of itself in future engagements, also in the forthcoming contests. The motion was carried. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
