POLITICAL ISSUES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—l have nothing further to say to “ Ex-labourer.” In to-night’s ‘ Star’ he admits being in receipt of an invalidity pension, just, as I surmised , then he says “ although on invalidity pension [for himself, wife, and children] I have not given up hope of returning to work before 30 years.” In conjunction with his fellow taxpayers, I say “ May his sincere hopes soon come true!” As for “Ajax,” who it appears is a lady, I have to thank her for showing me the humorous side —what her husband told her about a certain IR.S.M. at Sling. Really, I thought those fellows were marvellous; so much so that, to my idea, it’s a great pity there are not a few of them in harness nowadays, but it will come. Anyhow, I guess that if I met “ Ajax’s ” husband on the quiet he would be able to tell me of more ferocious people than those R.S.M.s, and I have no cure to offer for her blood running cold; it will run colder in November. . Another correspondent commences his letter by saying : “ Perhaps a little comment by a human man may be permissible.” 1 like that, hut who first of all, may I ask, is to he the judge of such a recommendation? Then he admits further on that “ this is slightly away from the subject.” Exactly—then why flog it? As for your other correspondent, “Ponoffski,” I am definitely not enamoured. Now you see him, now you don’t; all round the planet, with no finality.—l am, etc., He-Man.
August 16. P.S. —I am grateful to the writer of the letter who signs himself “ Exsoldier.” TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —“He-Man,” in expressing his scorn of “ Ex-Labourer ” and his kind makes one very objectionable and surely not Christianlike statement when he says “ his type usually have a dozen.” So irritating to me is this statement that I feel. I must ask him two questions, and sincerely hope ho can answer them to my satisfaction. First, ■on what authority, or teaching does he despise the man who has a large family?. Secondly, is he a Nationalist expressing National Party ideas? If he is a believer in God or humanity I cannot see that he can answer my first question at all, and if to the second he says “ Yes,” then 1 must change my political views and say like “He-Man,” “Thank God I found out in time.”—l am. etc., August 16. Hujiaxity.
