NINTH LARGEST FLEET. With the completion of the present building programme, of Clan Line Steamers Ltd. ; the company, together with its associated companies, will be owners of the ninth largest British fleet afloat. On January 1 of this year the combined fleets consisted of 60 vessels of 388,567 gross tons (including five vessels aggregating 36,250 gross tons being built by the Greenock Dockyard Company). The average size of the vessels at that time was 6,476 tons. In March last, an order for two cargo vessels of about 10,000 tons deadweight was placed with the same builders, and last month an order for still a further vessel of the same tonnage was reported. This will be the eleventh of similar type built by the Greenock Dockyard Company for the Clan Line.

WAIRANGI LEAVES LIVERPOOL. The Wairangi left Liverpool on July 30 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers. She is due here on September 22. RUAHINE REPORTS, The New Zealand Shipping Company has received a radio report from its liner lluahine, outward bound from London via Suva, stating that she will arrive at Wellington at 10 a.m. on Friday to disembark passengers. She will commence discharge of her cargo at Port Chalmers on Monday next. SALVAGE OF TUG. Preparations for the salvaging of the Auckland Harbour Board’s tug Te Awhina. which lies partly embedded in mud off the western viaduct, are being continued. Slings have been placed under the sunken tug, but a considerable amount of assembly work will be required before the vessel can bo lifted by scows. It is expected that she will be raised within the next two day^
