WINTER WOOL SALE
GRUTGHINGS OFFERED AT AUCKLAND MANY PASSINGS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 2. About two-thirds of the first three catalogues were passed in at the Auckland wool sale to-day. Though buyers bid keenly their offers did not approach the farmers’ ideas of values.. There were ironical cheers when a single lot was sold after many passings. The bench included buyer’s from Bradford, America, tho Continent, and local mills. Crutchings,. which comprised the majority of the 1,534 bales offered, were of very heavy condition owing to the wet season. Prices were about on a par with the three sales held last week in other North Island centres. In the early catalogue the best crutchings sold from 6? 2 d to 7£d a lb, an average of 5d to 6d, and inferior from 4d to 4£d. A few bales of lambs’ wool brought 7d to Bd, and fleece wool 8d to lOd.
