New York Trend Easier The Future for Base Metals N6w York failed to hold Saturday’s promising movement, •cd on a low turnover yesterday slipped slightly. The fact that industrials are being held above Dow Jones s 140 mark remains a favourable indicator of the future, however, while that the. market can hold its recent sharp upswing is a healthy sign. Through the observance of a bank holiday in London yesterday, markets were closed. Reviewing base metal conditions, British Metal Corporation Ltd. expresses the view that much depends on the trend in the United States. One point is certain—the longer revival in American demand is allayed the heavier will be the task of arresting the decline elsewhere. The rearmament demand for metals shows no sign of falling off, and it seems probable that the proportion of war demand to total demand for metals will increase in the next one or two years.
