FAIR TO CLOUDY! \ The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay: — An extensive cyclonic depression Lies to the east of the Auckland Peninsula. Pressures are also rather low_ over Eastern Australia. Forecast; Light to moderate and variable winds, feather for the most part fair to cloudy, but some scattered light rains still probable. Temperatures cold, with soma frosts. Seas slight to moderate. LOCAL CONDITIONS. Temperatures last night- fell just to freezing point, according to the recording at the Gardens. This morning was cold and overcast, a light but biting south-westerly breeze keeping temperatures to a low level. Midday found the respective maximum-minimum thermometer registrations at 'the Garden* at 40deg and 35.9 deg (from 9 o’clock)* while barometric pressure ! in the city at the same time was steady at 30.8 in. Yesterday, over a period of 24 hours, the temperatures were 46.6 deg and 34.2 deg. Though rain threatened during the morning, it had not begun to fall by 1 o’clock, but it appeared immip. nent. OTHER CENTRES. The following information is abridged from the report issued by the Meteorological Office at 9 this morning:— Weather. Temp. deg, Wellington;— Overcast; intermittent drizzling rain; gentle south-south-westerly breeze. 4?
