MAHAWATU HIGHWAY BLOCKED [Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., July 19. It v is estimated that about 8,000 cubic yards of material will require to be shifted in the removal of a slip which now blocks the Manawatu Gorge, half a mile from the Woodville end. The first section of material fell late yesterday, and shattered rock and spoil .extend over a chain along the highway. The outcrop of loose material must_ be removed before the Diesel mechanical shovel from the railway deviation at Milson begins operations to-day. • It is expected! that a track for cars will bo available soon afterwards.
