BED FOR CRIPPLED CHILD
ART UNION SUGGESTED (Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 21. The merits of a proposal to seek the permission of the Government for the holding of an art union to provide funds for the endowment of a bed at the Wilson Home for crippled children at Takapuna were debated at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board. A motion was introduced by Dr Hastings —“ That the board should consider the advisability of inaugurating an _ art union for the purpose.” Dr Hastings said that if the board could obtain £4,000 or £5,000 to endow a bed an excellent start would have been made. There were many people who would look upon the scheme as an opportunity of making a donation to a very worthy object. Several other speakers expressed the opinion that tho proposal, if adopted, would strike at the root of the system of hospital financing in New Zealand, a system which had won a wide measure of praise. On a division being taken Dr Hastings’s motion was carried by one vote.
