Escaping from the Waikune prison camp on Sunday night, John Colston (28), a labourer, was arrested at Levin yesterday. He appeared in the Palmerston North Court to-day charged with escaping, and also with the theft of an overcoat and other articles, valued at £3 7s 6d, frorn a motor car. Campbell, M.P., received a telegram last night from the Prime Minister advising that every consideration will be given to the proposal to run a railway tunnel under the hill from Sawyers Bay to Waitati. One of the advantages claimed for a tunnel is that it would shorten the running time for express trains to and from Christchurch.
