Escaping from the Waikune prison camp on Sunday night, John Colston (28), a labourer, was arrested at Levin yesterday. He appeared in the Palmerston North Court to-day charged with escaping, and also with the theft of an overcoat and other articles, valued at £3 7s 6d, frorn a motor car. Accused was remanded till June 27. Press Association. The National Broadcasting Service has made arrangements for carrying out a local rebroadcast of a ringside description of the world title boxing match between Schmeling and Louis, to be rtaged at the Yankee Stadium, New York. This will take place early tomorrow afternoon (New Zealand time), probably commencing about 1 o’clock. Mr A. Campbell, M.P., received a telegram last night from the Prime Minister advising that every consideration will be given to the proposal to run a railway tunnel under the hill from Sawyers Bay to Waitati. One of the advantages claimed for a tunnel is that it would shorten the running time for express trains to and from Christchurch.
