WEATHER FORECAST

CHANGEABLE, WITH RAIN The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay. Pressure is relatively low over the whole Dominion. The advance of an intense anti-cyclone from South-eastern Australia has been retarded by the formation of a secondary depression which is now moving on to the southern extremity of the Dominion. Forecast: Moderate to fresh northerly winds, turning shortly to strong southwesterlies or southerlies; weather, changeable, with intermittent _ rain, and in places hail, snow probable in tha high country; temperatures cold; seas, slight to moderate, but rising. OVERCAST AND DULL. Light drizzling rain fell for a short time in Dunedin early lost evening, tha fall being sufficient to lay the dust on the city streets. Immediately after the sky began to clear, and the night was fine. A moderate frost of Bdeg was recorded at the Gardens. This morning brought an overcast sky and cooler temperatures than yesterday, tha respective maximum-minimum thermometer registrations at the Gardens by noon being Sldeg and 45deg, as compared with 54.9 deg and 46deg yesterday at the same time. Over a period of 24 hours yesterday the readings were 54.8 deg and 32.5 deg. A cool, moderate north-westerly breeze prevailed this morning. Rainfall yesterday at _ th» Gardens was recorded as .Olih, indicating that the fall was heavier over the surrounding hills. Barometric pressure at midday was falling at 29.4 m. A change to unsettled conditions appeared likely.
