BOWLING

BALMACEWEN CLUB Although a successful season was reviewed by the president of tho Balmacewen Bowling, Lawn Tennis, and Croquet Club (Mr J. M‘Donald) at tho thirty-third annual meeting of the bowling section last night, it was decided to increase the subesriptions to L'3 10s per annum. Moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the Chairman paid a tribute to tho work of tho greenkeeper (Mr R. Wallace) and to Messrs Pilkington and Mahoney for their services in keeping tho green in iirst-class order. The past season had been an enjoyable one for all members, be said, and the club competitions had attracted keen interest. Only two games were played for tho Martin medals, the present holders being Messrs P. Austin, J. Robb, D. Leslie, and G. Robertson. Eight games were played in the Rose challenge competition, the winners being Messrs J. Moodie and E. Adamson. The club had been fairly well represented at the various tournaments, and Air J. Hughes was successful in winning tho singles competition at Alexandra. It was gratifying to record that the social functions had been well supported. The motion was seconded by Air S. Jenkinson and carried.

Club trophies won during the season were presented as follows: Champion Singles,—T. Hindle 1; runner-up, F. Lambeth. Handicap Singles. —W. Allan 1; run-ner-up, J. Alelville. Leads and Seconds Singles.—E. Davis 1; runner-up, C. Harrison. Club Pairs.—W. Ross and D. Bonnie 1; runners-up, G. AlacAvoy aud A. W. Macdonald.

Champion Pairs. —15. and G. Adamson 1; runners-up, D. Bennie and J. Buchan. Tho Dunedin Bowling Centre forwarded a copy of five remits received from different clubs for the consideration of the meeting. It was agreed to support the following two remits from the Kaikorai Club: “ AVhen a club wins any interclub competition controlled by the centre, such success should be permanently recorded by the centre in the club’s pavilion, say, in the form of a certificate or in some such suitable manner.”

“ That in regard to the champion of champions competition the name of the champion of each club must he forwarded to the centre at least 24 hours before the date fixed for play, otherwise the entry will not bo accepted, be altered as follows:—The words ‘24 hours ’ be altered to ‘ three days.’ ” A remit from the Leith Club—“ That the number of playing Saturdays be increased to 15 ” —was supported. •It was decided not to support the Roslyn Club’s remit—“ That as the 40hour week is not yety universal the centre Saturday competitions commence' at 2.30 p.m. instead of 2.15 p.m.” The following remit from the Anderson’s Bay Club was supported:—“ That for the Saturday interclub competition the centre revert to the method of scoring adopted during the year 1935-36 i.e., by rink wins instead of by section total points as in vogue at present.” On the motion of Mr J. Moodie, seconded by Mr J. Melville, it was decided that the annua] subscription for members be raised by 10s. A further motion from Mr Moodie—that the net revenue derived from the billiards table he used to establish a fund, to be known as the bowling improvement fund—was carried. It was agreed that all club ties be played in sections, section winners one life. It was decided to enter 12 rinks in the Dunedin Centre’s intcrclnb competitions and to enter for the Adess Shield, the four-rink championship, and the singles champion of champions. For the Wednesday competition it was decided to enter two sections. The election of office-bearers resulted; Vice-president, Mr H. R. Wilson; secretary, Mr G. S. Finlayson; delegates to the Dunedin Bowling Centre, Messrs E. Rackley and H. R. Wilson; delegate to Centre Executive, Mr H. R. Wilson ; Bowling Committee—Messrs J. Melville, J. Moodie. S. B. Smith, J. M'Donald, E. Rackley; selectors— Messrs G. Adamson, J. Melville, A. W. Macdonald; Clnb Tie Committee— Messrs J. Moodie, E. Davis; Green Committee—Messrs T. Ferguson, P. Pilkington, D. Mahoney; club captain, Mr J. Nisbot. LEITH CLUB The fourteenth annual meeting of the Leith Bowling and Croquet Club was held in tho club’s pavilion, Duke street. The president (Mr W. Paterson) was in the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. Moving the adoption of the annua! report and balance sheet, the President referred to the work of the officers and various committees, and particularly to the Entertainment Committee for its efforts in raising funds. He was pleased to report that the debt on the pavilion had been considerably reduced. Several remits were dealt with in connection with club matters. It was decided to enter 15 rinks for the Saturday matches and four rinks for the Wednesday matches. It was also decided to enter for the four-rink championship and the Adess Shield. After discussion it was moved that the executive of the committee go into the matter of a new green and additions to the pavilion and report at a special meeting of members. A discussion took place with reference to remits to the centre s animal meeting. Members were in favour of increasing the number of playing Saturdays, and a remit to increase tho number of games to 15 was approved. The following officers were ciecieci; President, Mr H.
