THE MANAGER'S REQUEST APPOINTMENT OF UMPIRES [Pee United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, June 20. The request of Professor Jagan Nath (manager) to be allowed to umpire in every match in which the. Indian team plays in New Zealand was discussed tonight by the Management Committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association, and it was decided that New Zealand umpires should be appointed to all test matches, but that in provincial matches the local associations should nominate two umpires, first and second choice, and that the controlling association have the option of appointing Professor Jagan Nath to one end if it so' desired. e The following umpires were appointed : Wanganui.—Mr C. A. Conchi and Professor Jagan Nath. North Taranaki.—Mr N. Pennington and Professor Jagan Nath. South Taranaki.—Mr T. Gerrard and Professor Jagan Nath. Nelson.—Mr J. W. Russell and Professor Jagan Nath. West Coast.—Mr S. Todd and Professor Jagan Nath. Canterbury.—Mr C. S. Bellamy and Professor Jagan Nath.

The following umpires were appointed for the test matches, the manager of the India team to have the option of appointing the second umpire in each test:—First test, Mr R. Gracie; second test, Mr W. A. Scott; third test, Mr A. G. Williams. Mr P. N. Quartcrtain stated that the Indians preferred, brief civic welcomes at their hotels on arrival. The manager of the team would appreciate opportunities of visiting colleges and schools and addressing the students. Impromptu functions would be preferable to arranged parties, but many members of the team liked dancing. In answer to an inquiry by the Poverty Bay Hockey Association in reference to a match with a Maori team at Rotorua, the secretary replied that in the absence of a reply to his letter of May 3, no match had been arranged against a Maori team, but if a date was available the question would be reopened later.
