DEFECTIVE CHIMNEY ORIGIN OF FIRE [Per United Press Association."! . WA.NGANUI, June 20. That Jack lloiall, aged two yearn and a-half, and Dorothy May Koiall, aged 18 months, died from asphyxiation and burning in the destruction of their home by fire, due to a defective chimney, was the verdict returned at,.the inquest held at Ohakune to-day by tli® district coroner,. Mr W. H. Sandfoyd. Evidence given by- the children'll grandfather Jed the coroner tp matt® an inspection of the chimney, and, it was found that a crack had developed between the new and the old brickwork when alterations, were maeje to the. fireplace some years ■ ago. Thi* crack had been hidden by the mantelpiece... • In view of this disclosure the opinion of the police that' the children bad caused the fire'was amended in favour of the coroner’s ruling.
