JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMENCE

IMPROMPTU SPEECH COHTEST The Dunedin Junior Chamber of Commerce recently held its impromptu speech competition before a fair attendance of members. Mr J. D- Neil was in the chair, and the judge for the evening was Mr F. M Hanan. The speeches covered a wide range of subjects, in fact, from ‘The Mind ’ to the ‘ Ideal Woman,’ and were, in the judge’s opinion, on the whole treated very capably. Mr Hanan’s criticism of the speakers was both thorough and instructive. His placings were as follows:—First round: Mr J. 1). S. More 1, Messrs J. D. Nci! and C. X. B. F rench (equal) 2. Second round : Mr C. N. B. French 1, Mr J. D. Neil 2. Mr H. L. Gibson S. An enjoyable evening closed with a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Hanan for his services.
