Following the preliminary counting of votes in the Eire election, the state of the parties at the moment is as follows : Mr Do Valera’s party (Fianna Fail) 52 Mr Cosgrave’s party (Fine Gael) 27 Labour 3 Independent 5 Those elected include Mr De Valera (president of the Executive Council), who headed the poll at Clare, obtaining 6,459 in excess of the quota, Mr Frank Aiken (Minister of Defence), Mr Oscar Traynor (Minister of Posts and Telegraphs), Mr Sean M‘Entee (Minister of Finance), Mr Sean T. O’Kelly (Deputy Vice-president), Mr James Ryan (Minister of Agriculture), Mr W. T. Cosgrave (Leader of Fine Gael), and Mr Byrne (Lord Mayor of Dublin). Those defeated include Mr James Larkin, a trade unionist. [The Dail Eireann, which consists of 13b seats, is elected on the principles of proportional representation.
