TRADE NEGOTIATIONS
BRITAIN, UNITED STATES, AND CANADA REPORT OF STALEMATE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright OTTAWA, June 17. The reluctance of the United States to open its markets to Canadian farm products is causing a stalemate in the trade negotiations. t Mexico is crowding out Canadian cattle from tho United States markets. Canada is requesting preference in return for reduced duty on United States farm implements exported to Canada. The same principle applies to other agricultural products. Washington is anxious to effect a pact with the United Kingdom, and London cannot make concessions unless Ottawa agrees to relinquish preference. Ottawa will nob do so unless Washington opens the door wider for farm products. The Canadian pact will expire in December. MORE OPTIMISTIC NOTE. LONDON, June 19. (Received June 20, at 11 a.m.) The Washington correspondent of * The Times ’ says the best information now available regarding the Anglo-Ame-rican trade talks is that Mr Cordell Hull is confident that an agreement will be reached in the not too distant future.
