COLD-HEAVY SHOWERS The following weather forecast was. issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the south* ern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, tialfmoon Bay;— Pressure is still low over New Zealand, especially in the south. The last of the present series of westerly depressions is now, however, passing, and there has been a rapid rise of pressure over South-eastern Australia. Forecast:) Winds, changing to strong southerlies. Weather, becoming cold and changeable, with heavy showers. Snow on the high levels, and hail in places. Seas, rather rough to rough. RAIN LIKELY. Variations in temperature from chilly to mild—were noticeable on Saturday, but the evening brought Bdeg of frost. Despite this, however, mild conditions were again the rule yesterday, and temperatures showed a rise* the day being one of the most pleasant since the heavy frosts began to make their appearance. There was some sunshine, while the atmosphere generajly during the day was more congenial than usual. This morning,- after » light frost of 2.ldeg last evening, conditions were much the same, though' there was little sunshine. By noon temperatues had reached 54.9 and 46deg maximum-minimum respectively, at the Gardens, while barometric pressure was steady at- 29.4 in. However* the sky was rapidly becoming overcast, while the atmosphere was cooling quickly, indicating that rain was not far distant. The mild north-easterly breeze prevalent during the morning had dropped. Yesterday, over a period of 24 hours, the respective thermometer registrations at the Gardens were 59.6 and 46.2 deg, while over a similar period on Saturday 52.7 and 40deg were tha readings.
