PAYMENT FOR HOLIDAYS [Pek United Pbbss Association.] HAMILTON, June 20. The statement that on the interpretation of a section of the Factories Act at present the subject of consideration by the Court of Appeal over £IOO,OOO was involved throughout New in respect of holiday pay for workers in factories coming; within the Act, was made by Mr L. Alderton, of Auckland, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. The case before the court involved a claim relating to a clause in a dispute brought by the Inspector of Factories at New Plymouth, and, as a decision on the claim would depend upon the decision of the Court of Appeal, the magistrate adjourned the hearing sine die. Mr Alderton appeared for the defendants, the New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser Company, which was sued by the Inspector of Factories for a penalty in respect to an alleged breach of the Taranaki chemical manure; and acid workers’ award, in that ithe company employed A. J. Jones and seven other workers during the period ending December 26, 1937, and failed to pay them for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
