EX-HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BALL
ANNUAL FUNCTION IN CONCERT CHAMBER A gay crowd of dancers and friends witnessed tlio presentation of ExOtago Girls’ High School debutantes on the occasion of the animal ball held in the Concert Chamber on Wednesday evening. Behind the scarlet-clad orchestra hung the twin crests mud badge of the school. Gay festoons of bunting decorated the stage, and the supper tables wore brightened by vases of bronze chrysanthemums. The 300 guests were received by Miss M. H. M. King, principal of the school, who wore a gown of dark green embossed velvet, trimmed with gold sequins, and Mrs Kerr, vice-president of the Ex-Girls’ Club, black cloque with a pink organdie corsage spray. Both ladies carried bouquets of bronze chrysanthemums, the gift of the club. Early in the evening 23 debutantes were presented by Mrs Kerr to Miss Flora Allan, president of the Ex-Girls’Club and) former principal of the school. Her gown was of black velvet, and she carried a bouquet of violets and jonquils, presented to her by the club. Each of the debutantes was given a dainty Victorian posy, and they made a pretty picture as they danced the Destiny waltz with their partners. The chaperones were Mrs G. A. Turner (navy georgette, appliqued in navy and scarlet), Miss Dora Bajdey (green floral crepe, green velvet jacket), Miss Muriel May (black velvet), and Miss Stella Bayley (saxe blue velvet). Other committee members pre-
sent were Mrs C. E. Begg (tomato georgette and sequins). Misses Npaire Walls (petunia taffeta), Phyllis Butler (silver threaded Burgundy crepe, pink shoulder spray), arid Betty Joel (cherry Persian satin). The following debutantes were presented : Miss Betty Brown (white chiffon over taffeta, cut on period lines, diamante shoulder straps, and diamante roses). . Miss Elsie Rennie (white silhouette georgette, niched sleeves, and featuring the new low waistline). Miss Nancy Sparrow (white chiffon velvet, puffed sleeves, silver headdress). Miss Una Walker (white corded chiffon over taffeta, off-the-shoulder neckline. deep pointed belt). Miss Marie Morgan (white georgette over satin, ruffled at hemline. Peter Pan collar); Miss Betty Whittington (white taffeta, square neckline, full, skirt, camellias). Miss Neire Wilson (ivory brocaded taffeta, overdress of Milanese Lace, old and beautiful bracelet). Miss Elvie Dodd (pale pink Swiss organdie, embroidered in green and pink rosebuds, green sash). Miss Gladys Parker (white satin frock with net redingote. Flowers were worn in the hair). Miss Betty Whitaker (ivory embossed ninou over taffeta; trimming of-gold sequins). Mi ss Gwen Graham (ivory lace redingote over taffeta, bows down centre front, Peter Pan collar). Miss Amsloe Horne (white angelskin lace over satin, cut on classical lines). Miss Joan Chetwln (heavy mother-of-pearl satin Tinder a redingote of white stiffened net. lame flowers). Miss Colleen M'f.auchlan (early Victorian frock of white stiffened net over taffeta, the skirt handed with white satin). Miss June Olinhant (Victorian gown of ivory georgette and taffeta, scroll effect at hemline, butterfly sleeves). Miss Margaret Martin (simple gown of white georgette, with ruching at bodiee and hemline). Miss Joan Markham (ivorv taffeta cut on Empire lines, diamante clasps, freesias worn in the hair). Miss Betty Walker (white georgette over satin, with sash and white (lowers). Miss Betty Juris* (white georgette over satin, made in Grecian style with floating shoulder draperies).
