AMATEUR ATHLETICS

TRAINING COLLEGE SPORTS Tho Dunedin Training College Amateur Athletic Association hold Us sports meeting on the University Oval yesterday afternoon. Though tho weather conditions were pleasant the previous day’s rain had made tho going very heavy. The meeting was really a “ try out ” for tho selection of the team to represent tho college at the training college tournament, which is to be held at Christchurch this month, the first and second in each event qualifying for inclusion. The presence of It. J. Pilling, tho University athlete, added to the interest of the fixture, and ho won no fewer than five events. J. Robertson also proved himself another good all-rounder. This is only his first year in the college, and he ran second to Pilling in a number of events, besides winning tho hurdles. The University football team was represented by C. Bissett and J. Egan, the former showing up well in the sprints, while tho latter handled the javelin and tho shot in good style. The entries for the meeting wore the largest for some years, about 70 competitors taking part. Taking the state of the track into consideration, the standard shown was fairly high.
