COMMITTEE'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon and was attended by Messrs J. Hellyer (in the chair), J. Mitchell, F. J. Conn, J. B. Blair, J. E. Brunton, R. Gawn, H. M. Driver, J. Allison, D. B. Craighead, D. Ireland, W. S. Thomson, A. C. Begg, T. D. Dalziel, E. M. North, J. A. Fowler, R. T. Kirk, W. Lee, J. M. Fraser and S. Bowman. The following new members were proposed and elected:—Messrs H. S. Reid, D. J. Hellyer, Silver Fern Taxi Company, Herbert’s Service Station, Nelson J. Young, Mcßae Bros., L. A. McAdam, H. H. Kearney, John Bain and J. Gawn. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS Finance Committee. —The Finance Committee met on Tuesday and recommended payment of accounts amounting to £241 7s lid. The bank balance was £337 0s lid in credit, with outstanding cheques amounting to £ls 4s 4d.—lt was decided that the cover for public risk at the Winter Show be doubled to £IOOO for each of four accidents at a premium of £24. Grounds and Buildings Committee. — The Grounds and Buildings Committee report stated that the hot showers had been completed at Tahuna Park, and were working satisfactorily, and that the motor camp fence had also been completed within the estimated cost, was adopted. A letter from the Dunedin Twenty Badminton Club asking for permission to erect a hot shower in Brydone Hall was considered and left to the chairman of the committee. GENERAL Delegates were nominated to attend the Royal Agricultural Society’s Southern District Council meetings and also the annual meeting in Wellington on July 7. The Summer Show dates were set down for November 22 and 23. Nominations for the committee, which close on May 27, were received from Messrs W. Lee, E. M. North J. B. Blair, R. T. Kiri., K. Clark, S. Bowman. J. E. Brunton, J. Allison and T. D. Dalziel. and nominations for president. vice-president and treasurer were received foi Mr J. Hellyer Mr J. M. Fraser and Mr S Bowman respectively. Mr Crosby Morris was nominated an honorary life member It was decided that the Dunedin
Model Engineering Society’s offer to stage a display of working models at the Winter Show at a fee of £lO be accepted. It was noted that the Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage) would not be able to open the show, but that the Minister of Lands (Mr F. Langstone) would act in his place. It was decided that three guessing competitions be run and the prizes to be offered left to the president and the vice-president to select. The competitions are to be bullock weight guessing. sheep weight guessing and a further competition more suitable for women and town people. Entries from 14 Women’s Institutes for bays were received. Mr J. A. Fowler was appointed as the Otago A. and P. Society’s member of the committee of the Dunedin District Committee of the Young Farmers’ Club. EXPORT LAMB COMPETITION The London placings of the lambs in the Export Competition were received, and the New Zealand placings altered, Mr L. C. Dougherty, of Ranfurly, replacing Mr F. C. Johnston for first place. In connection with this competition it was decided to write to the Clutha A. and P. Society and inquire if the South Otago District would join with the Central District and so make a larger display and give Otago a better chance of securing the shield.
