IFbom Oub Oauako Cobrebpondbnt. ] MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. Owing to an insufficient, number of polling places—there were only four in Oamaru —there was much congestion at the booths on Wednesday. Another consequence was that the number of votes cast at each booth was so great that it was 4 o’clock in the morning before the counting of the borough council votes was completed. The number of votes cast in the mayoral election was 50.9 per cent, of the number on the roll. The figures for the Oamaru Borough Council, after the checking of votes by declaration, are as follows: —J. C. Kirkness 2,038. E. W. Grenfell 1,885. A. R. Tait 1,832, J. Meikle 1,816, L. Macrae 1,696, F. Butterfield 1,695, N. N. Fraser 1,683, A. Wilson, 1,660, A. E. Hodge 1,588, E. D. Watts 1,518, G. Mitchell 1,395, H. M. Barclay 1,390. The foregoing were elected. D. S. Bam 1,327, G. White 1,260, J. Maxwell 1153, A. A. Barsdell 888, J. M'Lean 886, W. L. Borrows 751, H. S. Stevens 570, J. Welch 501, G. P. Cuttriss 490. MINIATURE RIFLES. Writing from Pa.ris to a friend in Oamaru Mr H. B. Burton states that he and Mrs Burton and Miss Delis Burton have spent six weeks on the Continent. 'visiting Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Holland, Nice, and Monte Carlo. They had experienced only one hour of rain (at Sydney) since leaving Oamaru.
