SOUTHLAND MEETING TO-DAY’S TRIALS [Peb United Pbess Association.) INVERCARGILL, May 12. Local candidates for Saturday’s Southland Club’s meeting were given final trials this morning. The galloping took place on the extreme outside of the course proper, and the going was on the dead side, and inclined to lift as the morning progressed. No visiting horses have arrived yet. Wynwood (H. Preston) was first out, and was sent over seven furlongs, which took Imin 37 2-ssec, the last four 57sec. He went fast in the early stages, but eased up for the run home. Preston will ride him on Saturday. AVaitoru (G. Barclay) and Invadere (R. Humphries) were companions over seven furlongs. They ran the distance in Imin 35 l-ssec, the last four furlongs in 55 3-ssec, It was a pleasing effort. , Johnny (Civard) and Barley Almond (J. A. Rowland) also went seven furlongs, covered in Imin 36 2-sseo, the last four in 56 3-ssec. Johnny did his work well, but Barley Almond, who is not a good track worker, had to be shaken up to keep with him. Triple Cone (L. Chitterbuck), who looks well, reeled off six furlongs in Imin 21 3-ssec, the last four in v>4 l-ssec, a good gallop. . , , Mona’s Song (W. Ellis) finished ahead of Foxlove (E. Baker) and Aspire (C. Ward) in a trial over seven furlongs, the last four furlongs, bpimr
run in 56 4-ssec, and tie full distanoe in Imin 36 2-ssec. F. W. Ellis’s pair went well, but Aspire did not gallop at all generously. He looks m good order, however. Grand Finale (G. Barclay) was too good for Baltruin (L. Strathearn) in a run over five furlongs in Imin Ssec. Grand Finale is galloping well at pre(L. Clutterbuck) finished well clear of Dalrymple (C. Ward) at the end of six furlongs in - Imin 23 2-sseo. the last four in 58sec. Moneyless (G. Barclay) started off at the seven-furlong post and was picked up by Western Song (C. Low) at'six furlongs. Moneyless finished ahead of his mate, registering Imin 34 2- the last four in 57 l-6sec. He looks in excellent order. Western Song ran his six furlongs in Imin 21 l-sseo. Coxcomb <W. Ellis) just shaded Amelita (E. Baker) and Galleon (H. Preston) at the end of a mile in Imin 52sec, the first four furlongs in 55 3- the first six in Imin 22sec, and the last four in 56 2-Ssec. Galleon did not do well over the final stages, but the other two did their work nicely.
