The trial was commenced before Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon of John Bond (49) on charges of committing an unnatural offence upon a boy of ,13 and (alternatively) with committing indecent assault upon a male. Bond, who was represented by Mr C J. L. White, pleaded not guilty. Mr F. B. Adams conducted the case for the Crown. Further evidence was heard this morning. The only witness for the defence was the accused, whose explanation of the affair (which was alleged to have occurred back from the beach at St. Clair) was that he was merely demonstrating life saving exercises and wrestling holds to the boy. Counsel addressed the jury, and His Honour then summed up. The jury retired, at 12.40 p.m. and returned at 2.35 p.m. with a verdict of guilty on the major charge, and not guilty on the second charge. Bond was remanded until tomorrow morning for sentence.
