FIVE-DAY CONFERENCE BEGUN

WELLINGTON, March 9. The fifty-fifth annual meeting of the New Zealand Educational Institute was opened to-day, 88 teachers, representing 44 branches, attending. The proceedings will continue till Friday. The delegates were welcomed by Die mayor, Mr Hislop,’ who stressed the importance of the teaching profession, and expressed the hope that the conference would be of benefit.

In his presidential address, Mr R. M'Glashau (Napier) referred to the need of unification, not only of control, hut of the whole services of education. Tho conference wont into committee to continence the executive’s report.
