OTAGO CLUB The following are the results of the matches in the third round of the Four Ball Knock-out Handicap played on the Balmacewen links on Saturday;—T. B. Ferguson and D. A. Ferguson defeated T. W. Wight and A. H. Boyd 3 and 1, R. PDouglas and D. B. G. Paterson defeated M. Connors and J. P. Cartwright 4 and 3, D. M. Irvine and I. Carr defeated J. A. Dunning and W. S. Stewart 3 and 2, A. G. Sime and A. Gibbs defeated J. M. Fraser and G. N, Brownlee 5 and 4. A St. Andrew’s Cross Bogey Handicap was also played. In the A grade section A. Gibbs and T. C. Tyrrell drew with scores of two down, and P. A. Barton was the winner of the B grade with a score of two up. The best cards returned were as follows:

CLAIR CLUB The monthly Stroke Handicap played on the St. Clair links on Saturday afternoon, resulted in a draw between W. W. Strang (84—13—71) and E. N. Elder (82—11—71) in the A Grade section. J. F. Cardo (83 — 16—67) won the B Grade competition, N. W. Skinner being second with 88—20—68.

Bennie and F, W. Dixon in the final. CHISHOLM PARK CLUB The season for the Chisholm Park Ladies’ Club was officially opened

on Saturday, when the president (Mrs W. Grant) drove the first ball.

A mixed foursomes competition over nine holes was then played, over 120 taking part. The winner? were'Captain and Mrs Greville, who handed in. the fine card of 42—13 29. Other goods cards were:—H. McFarlane and Mrs Swanson 50— 15—35, N. Simpson and Mrs Hunt 50—15—35, J. Sidney and Mrs Gillespie 48—10—38, Mr and Mrs G. Burns 51—13—38, Mr and Mrs Wright 51—13—38, D. Sime and Mrs Smith 54—15—39, H. Riddell and Miss Gore 54—15r-39, F. Wigney and Miss Hamer 54—15—39, C. Wood and Miss B. Drake 54—-14-r-40. In the Tainui Social Club pavilion the president welcomed the players and guests. The Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox), declaring the season open, congratulated the club on its surprisingly rapid growth. . Other speakers were Mr N. R. Wilson, president of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr W. H. Shepherd, representing the City Council, and Mr D. Tannock, curator of reserves. _

MACANDREW BAY CLUB Excellent weather prevailed fof the opening of the Macandrew Bay Golf Club’s winter season on Saturday afternoon. The president (Mr W. F. Titchener) welcomed a good attendance of members and visitors at the club house and briefly outlined the plans of the committee ior improvements to the course, stating that the committee was sparing na effort to make the course interesting. Mr Titchener asked members to co-operate in building up ,the membership. As the game of golf was becoming increasingly popular it should not be difficult to introduce prospective players. After wishing members a successful season h* called on Mrs Morris (lady captain) to drive the first ball. Following afternoon tea a mixed Stableford bogey match was played and resulted in a win for Miss Little. The best cards handed in were as follows:—Miss Little 33 points, A, G. Johnstone 29, G. McQueen 26, J. Hurrell 25, H. Bevin 23, A. C. Penny 20, J. Bebin 19.
