SHOWERS OF MEDALS
encouraging patriotism in POLAND A shower of medals-gold, silver, and bronze—is about to be poured down on the. citizens of Poland. y 500.000 of them will receive medals. The project has been brought before the Diet and is most strongly supported by the Premier and whole Government. According to the Premier, the medals are to serve a “patriotic” purpose. Very few people, argued the Premier, can now show their affection and close connection with the State. A medal on the breast of a peasant in a church or at a meeting in the remote villages or Poland will be a sign of patriotism and make the State “ popular among the citizens. Hence each person who has in one way or another done something for the State is to get a medal. Those who have worked m the service of the State for 10 years will get a bronze medal, if 20 years a silver medal, if 30 years a gold one. When the medals are distributed Poland will have the largest number of rewarded citizens in Europe.
