ST. CLAIR BATHS
PLANS FOR MODERNISING INTEREST BF SPORTS BODIES SOUGHT Wide interest has been created among swimming enthusiasts and sports bodies by the proposals of Mr W. J. Bardsley, as outlined in the ‘ Star ’ last Thursday night, for modernising the St. Clair swimming baths. The plans are being shown in a St. Clair shop window, and are attracting considerable attention. More patronage has been bestowed on the St. Clair Baths during the present fine summer than for very many years, and people have realised more than ever before the potentialities of this very fine pool. A number of people, from other parts of New Zealand and from abroad have visited the pool during recent months, and have invariably expressed surprise that so little has been done over the years to improve a natural swimming pool that compares more than favourably with outdoor swimming pools in other places. Following up his proposals, Mr Bardsley has sent a circular to the Amenities Society, the Otago Centre of the Swimming Association, the Otago Cricket Association, the Otago Expansion League, the Otago Rugby Union, the Otago Hockey Association, the Otago. Lawn Tennis Association, the St. Clair Improvement Association, and other bodies interested, suggesting that, if any satisfactory change is to be made to the baths, it will be brought about only by united action. He suggests that a conference of delegates from the various organisations be convened at once to discuss the whole question, and that, if thought desirable, a suitable questionnaire be submitted to candidates at the forthcoming municipal elections to find if they are willing, if elected, to do something.
