STATE Of BEACHES CARE HEEDED AT TOMAHAWK With a continuance of the idea! weather that has been experienced, conditions should be very pleasant on th'o local beaches over ’ the week-end. Special care should ' be exercised at Tomahawk, where the beach ‘is full of holes and channels, and where there is a baa rip The Lawyer’s Head end of the beach is the only safe part, and swimmers should keep between the flags. At St. Kilda the portion of the beach between the flags is in good order, hut there is a verv bad rip towards St. Clair and a slight hole inshore, so that bathers should exercise more • than ordinary caution. The beach at'. St. Clair is in. good order, and the stretch between the flags is perfectly level and safe, while there has been a good surf. DISPLAY BY CHAMPIONS. The St. Clair beach to-morrow after, noon will be the scene of one of the finest surf life-saving displays ever presented in Dunedin, as the champion St. Clair six-man team, winners of the Nelson Shield at Christchurch. (New Zealand championship), will take part in a special competition against St. Clair B and the St. Clair juniors. This is the first time Otago has ever won this high honour, and the opportunity of seeing the team in action i# one not to bo missed. St. Clair and St. Kilda will meet in a four-man lifesaving contest, and there will be novelties in the form of canoe races.. Lifesaving work on our beaches is of a purely voluntary nature, and the high 1 standard attained by the St. Clair Club lis a tribute to the enthusiasm ‘and efficiency of members and coaches.
