MONDAY NIGHT’S BOXING
A bumper house is promised for Monday night’s boxing programme, being staged by the Otago Boxing Association, and exceptional interest is being taken in the main bout between Stan Jenkin, professional welter-weight champion of New Zealand, and Doug Eddington, of Timaru. Jenkin is well known to Dunedin boxing followers. He has lost only one contest as a professional. and his combination as a boxer-fighter makes him a popular figure with the public. Eddington is in good form, and should put up a great bout. He had 25 amateur bouts for only four losses, and in eight professional bouts has had five wins, including one over Clarrie Raynor, then light-weight champion of New Zealand. The appearance of Dick Baker, Southland welter-weight, is also being eagerly awaited, and the fact that the two main contests are being refereed by Mr Harold_ Baker, of Australia, is also lending interest to the tournament. Mr Baker has given his services in a purely honorary capacity, and as he is an international figure in sport the 0.8. A. is very fortunate in being able to have him as referee. In the special amateur bouts, a great clash is anticipated between Hanham, of Waimate, and MXennan, of Tahakopa, as both are hard-hitting light-heavy-weights. The lowest prices on, record are being charged, and full particulars are advertised.
