MINING BOOKS CLOSING FOR FIFTH GALL The Dunedin Stock Exchange has been advised by Austral-New Zealand Mining Ltd. that the company’s share registers will be closed from March 9 to March 18 (both days inclusive). The fifth call (which will be 2s 6d a share, making the shares 17s 6d paid) will be struck on March 15 and will be payable on April 8. MAORI GULLY DREDGE The Maori Gully dredge on Thursday reached a high reef blocking the entrance to Waimea Creek. The wash-up has been postponed to allow the full crew to proceed with blasting operations. It is expected that the dredge will get through into the creek at the end of next week, when the wash-up will take place. The dredging of the creek is expected to provide work for a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months. The claim will then be outworked. After the company sank 16 scout bores at a cost of £370 on Cameron’s option area prospecting was discontinued. The directors considered the results insufficient to warrant close boring.
