Mr Peter Rogers, who is leaving oa a visit to his parents in Edinburgh, was farewelled last evening by his fellow, employees, and presented with a cigarette case. * At the annual meeting of the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society, held yesterday afternoon, His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy made reference t» the death of Mr John Garbutt, probation officer.' The deceased, he said, had been a man of great experience and sound judgment, and his associations with the society had been most harmonious. Through his death the Dominion had lost one of its best probation officers. 1 At the meeting of. the Taieri County Council yesterday it was decided to send a letter ot sympathy to Cr Kirk wishing him a speedy recovery from his illness. Reference to the death ot Dr J. D. Hayes, medical superintendent at Sea- ■ cliff Mental Hospital, was made by His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy at tho annual j meeting of the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society yesterday afternoon. In Dr Hayes there had passed awpy ’a' most able man, one who had; given excellent co-operation to- tho society, and one who could not do enough for the benefit of his patients, said His Honour. Members of the staff of Pattison, £de Company met yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Miss W. Broughan, , who is leaving shortly on a world tour. On behalf of the directors and staff, Mr R. T. Simpson expressed their good wishes; and' referred to' the "manner in which Miss Broughan had successfully Managed the local branch o? the company over a period of years. On behalf of the directors, Miss Broughan was presented with a substantial cheque and the-staff handed her a travelling case and hat box as a i token of its esteem. .
