ANNUAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the Otago and Southland Funeral Directors? Association was held in the Automobile, Association (Otago) Rooms on Saturday, the 19th. inst. The president (Mr R. M'Lean), occupied the chair, a very representative gathering of members being present. The annual report and balance sheet, which had been circulated among the members, were adopted, and it was very pleasing to note that quite a satisfactory credit balance was shown after the year’s working. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted in the following being elected:—Patron, Mr J. Hope (re-elected); president, Mr R. M‘Lean (re-elected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Fraser (Invercargill) and J. W. Stringer (Oamaru) ; executive memJ. M'Donald, G. T. Thorn, S. C. Gourley, E. L. Hope, and W. H. Cole.

Mr G. T. Thorn, the association’s delegate to the New Zealand Federation of Funeral Directors, gave a very comprehensive report of the business of the conference, which was held at Auckland, and the activities of the federation during the past 12 months, one of the main features of the report being Ithe State registration of all funeral directors throughout the Dominion, which was expected to be completed in the very near future. Many matters of importance concerning the association were then fully discussed, and satisfactory results are expected from these deliberations. One striking feature of the discussions was the matter_ of payment of all cemetery charges prior to the carrying out of funerals, and this, along with other matters, was referred to the incoming committee to be dealt with at the earliest opportunity.
