Mr de Valera had an hour’s conversation with Mr Neville Chamberlain at the House of Commons, and afterwards the first formal meeting of the resumed discussions between the Ministers of the Uinted Kingdom and Eire took place. Mr Chamberlain, Sir Samuel Hoare, Sir Thomas Inskip, and Mr Malcolm MacDonald were present, _ and the discussions ranged over a wide field and embraced questions of partition, defence, finance, and trade. _ Later a discussion affecting trade, with a view to the conclusion of a trade agreement, was resumed between Messrs F. Lemass, J. Ryan, and J. W. Dulanty for Eire and Messrs W. b. Morrison and Malcolm MacDonald for the United Kingdom.
