AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW
. SOME SPECIAL FEATURES There was a good attendance at the Dunedin Horticultural Society’s autumn show last night, and the various exhibits were greatly admired. It is the considered opinion of qualified experts that the outstanding gl'adiola in the show is a dark red Rewi Fallu, exhibited by Mr S. M'Cready, of .Green Island. This exhibit, which produces eight to ten florets of 6in to 7in in diameter, has created quite a lot of attention. A novelty in the form of a Texan plant is shown by Mr Bryan F. Jeffery, of Roxburgh, wnose father, Mr F. T. D. Jeffery, when travelling in Texas in 1924, picked a seed of the plant which he saw there and had admired. The flowers are daisy-like, bright golden yellow, and measure about two inches across. Mr Jeffery, sen., did not know the name' of the plant, which he subsequently cultivated on his rockery at home, but this was later ascertained from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to be Xnnthisma Texaninn. Mr Jeffery, jun., has since introduced the plant to Italian growers, and recent catalogues, both from that country and from England, have featured what is described therein to he a composite annual of great horticultural value. The disabled soldiers at Moutecillo Red Cross Home have their customary stall at the show', some very fine examples of leather and basket work being the principal features. The show will conclude this evening.
