LEAGUE NO SECURITY
DEFENCE MEASURES ESSENTIAL [Paa United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 24. Far from preventing war, the League of Nations was showing tendencies in the opposite direction, said Mr W. It. Fee, in his presidential address at the annual meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to-day. Though the League might be organised on a sounder basis in the future, it was the present'duty of New Zealand to follow the lead of Britain in preparing its own defence force to protect our shores. The Chambers of Commerce were pleased that the Government had undertaken this preparation in some measure, and would stand behind any further move that would allay uneasiness as to the weakness of the Dominion’s defence.
