HIGH STANDARD
EFFICIENCY OF FIRE BRIGADES (Peb United Peess Association), NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 23. The standard of fire-fighting efficiency had increased greatly in recent years, commented Superintendent W. L. Wilson, of Auckland, opening the annual meeting of the New Zealand Fire Brigades Officers and Members’ Institute. Mr R, Girling-Butcher, inspector of fire brigades, said he considered the institute the most important single activity of the United Fire Brigades’ Association. The papers read at the conference were typical of the standard now reached by the service. The technique of fire fighting had been developed to a stage where only one or two leads were used except for exceptional fires. Officers were elected as follows: President, Superintendent W. L. Wilson (Auckland); vice-presidents— Superintendents A. Morrison, R. M. Price, A. Craig. H. A, Follas, A. J. Bennett and C. A. Woolley; Executive Council —Superintendents T. Anderson. P. Deare, A. Craig, J. W. Kane, C. W. Tyler and H. J. Price; treasurer, Mr C. A. Osborne; secretary. Captain T. J. Watts: Scientific and Research Committee —Sunerintendents W. L. Wilson, C. A. Woolley, A. Morrison, A. Craig, H. E. Follas.
