NEW PRINCIPAL
WELLINGTON GIRLS'COLLEGE [Pm United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 23. Miss E. M. North has been appointed principal of the Wellington Girls’ College in succession to Miss V. M. Greig, ■who has retired and will be relinquishing the position at the end of March. Miss North, who is at present on the staff of the Wellington East Girls’ College, is a former pupil of the Wellington Girls’ College, and was chosen from 13. applicants. Sne graduated B.A. at .Victoria College, and in 1921 was awarded one of the university passages to Europe to enable her to do postgraduate work in overseas countries. She greatly added to her experience in schools in Britain and on the Continent, spending five years at the Sorbonne University in Paris. On her return to New Zealand she joined the staff of the Wellington College, and afterwards went to the Wellington East Girls’ College. In 1927 she was on the staff of the A'scham Girls’ College, Sydney. _ In 1928 she joined the staff of the Girls’ High School at New Plymouth, and a year later she went to the Girls’ College at Wanganui. In 1930 she was appointed first assistant in the Girls’ College at Nelson, and she again visited Europe in 1931 and 1932. For a time she was first assistant in the Girls’ High School at Palmerston North, and since then she has been senior French mistress at the Wellington East Girls’ College. Mias North is vice-president of the National Federation of University Women and president in Wellington of the National Council of Women.
